SPECTACULAR LIGHT DISPLAY AT THE ZÜRI FÄSCHT

A first for Switzerland in the skies above Lake Zurich

Zurich provided the party, we provided the drones: The Züri Fäscht attracts millions of visitors every year, and in 2019, those in attendance were treated to a dazzling display as the city hosted Switzerland’s first public drone show. In a stunning spectacle made possible by the Elektrizitätswerk der Stadt Zürich (ewz), a smart swarm of 150 drones took to the night skies in close formation, creating wonderful 3D images with an array of patterns and colours, all set to music.

Over the course of seven minutes, the specially developed choreography saw the drones display iconic Züri Fäscht images before transforming them into symbols of wind, water and solar energy. The aim was to underline the connection between Switzerland’s largest fair and electricity from sustainable energy sources: just like the ewz-sponsored drone show, the Züri Fäscht is powered by 100% green energy – a fact we highlighted to great effect with a large-scale out-of-home and social-media campaign in the city of Zurich. 

 

The drone show was developed in conjunction with the drone experts at SKYMAGIC, based in the UK and Singapore.

Ready for take-off: a floating platform measuring 27 × 33 meters and built specifically for the Züri Fäscht provided the perfect launch pad.

The show took place on two beautifully clear nights, at 0.15 a.m. and at 2.15 a.m., meaning over one million people will have seen the display.

The idea of the supporting out-of-home campaign was to combine various motives symbolizing the fair with the future of renewable energies, culminating in a drone show powered by 100% green energy.

The campaign was launched online with three light-hearted social-media videos, announcing the drone show and inviting people to guess the number of drones, how fast they would be travelling and the formations they would be flying in.
